Jimmys Bench
It is difficult to believe that nine months have passed since our dear friend and colleague Jimmy passed so suddenly. Though those who knew him are very unlikely to forget him, and many have expressed a wish to have a place to visit where he can be remembered and a park bench seems fitting. We are therefore fundraising for a bench in Jimmy’s memory.
Jimmy Carlson was a long-standing campaigner and voice for those affected by homelessness. As someone affected by homelessness himself, Jimmy was instrumental in so many changes for many organisations and people – not least the Museum of Homelessness with whom he served as a volunteer and trustee. Jimmy eventually received an OBE for his work in 2012.
The location for the bench will be in Graham Street Gardens N1, and has been chosen due to Jimmy’s preference for being close to water, particularly when feeling particularly reflective, or had some thinking to do.
The goal is to have the bench installed in time for an unveiling ceremony on his first anniversary, 12th January 2018, where it is hoped Jimmy’s family will be in attendance.
