Dying Homeless Project 2023 findings to be published in October 2024

Today the Museum of Homelessness has announced that the findings of the Dying Homeless Project will be published each Autumn from now onwards.

We are adopting a new seasonal approach to our work as we prepare to open the world’s First Museum of Homelessness to the public at our new space in Finsbury Park in May 2024. This will allow us to manage the unprecedented demands on our team and ensure we can reveal the full story of what’s happening in the UK each year while providing the right space in the calendar to remember the people we’ve lost with love.

Ahead of the publication of the 2023 data, we have been busy on a successful campaign to reverse the ONS's plans to stop their data collection on the deaths of people while homeless. They have now committed to revisit how they conduct their research to improve the quality of their count, and we look forward to advising them on the development of a more robust methodology.

Our team, led by Gill Taylor, continues to gather data for our own independent work - the Dying Homeless project itself. This year they have made over 300 requests to local authorities and have received the most responses since the project started. They are also working with our grassroots allies, sector colleagues and bereaved family and friends to learn the names and stories of those who passed.

Year round, we are committed to impressing the importance of remembering people with love to policymakers, commissioners and leaders and we will continue to develop this area of the project's impact, thanks to Gill's leadership.

Please reach out to us if you'd like to discuss the changes to the project, contribute to the project or find out more.
