Museum of Homelessness in Belfast in June 2025
In June 2025 Museum of Homelessness is spending a week in Belfast, holding sector facing and public engagement events and taking to the streets. The museum’s senior team will be meeting with the Northern Ireland Housing Executive, Simon Community Northern Ireland and sharing stories from our collection at The Ulster Museum, in partnership with National Museums NI.
As part of the trip, MoH is appealing for information on the deaths of people experiencing homelessness in Northern Ireland. If you have any information you would like to share please contact gill@museumofhomelessness.org
Since 2018, the museum has collated information of the deaths of people experiencing homelessness and the museum is the only organisation monitoring deaths in the homeless community in Northern Ireland, Wales, Scotland and England.
In order to get a clear picture and do justice to those dying whilst homeless in Northern Ireland the museum's investigation team will be coming to Belfast on a fact-finding mission in June.

Wednesday 18th June
The team will also be hosting two events on Wednesday 18th June at the Ulster Museum including:
Introducing the Dying Homeless Project (10.30am-12.30pm)
An informal gathering that will introduce the Museum of Homelessness and the Dying Homeless Project — our UK-wide initiative that honours the lives of people who die while homeless.
The session will be a relaxed opportunity for people working, volunteering or accessing support from statutory, voluntary and grassroots organisations in Northern Ireland to:
Meet some of the Museum of Homelessness crew
Hear about the Dying Homeless Project and how you can get involved
Share your insights, experiences and reflections about the issues facing people experiencing homelessness in Northern Ireland
View items from our collection, shared through Object Storytelling
Please contact matt@museumofhomelessness.org if you wish to attend this event.
Troubles and Beyond Gallery takeover (2pm - 4pm)
Join us for a gallery takeover that delves deep into the heart of homelessness by sharing stories from our collection past and present. If you have questions about the rise in homelessness, want to share an experience or are worried about the future, this event is for you.
Taking place in the Troubles and Beyond Gallery, the Museum’s objects will be shared by MoH's storyteller Lewis, with facilitation from MoH directors Matt and Jess Turtle. Part performance, part discussion, expect an interactive session with plenty to think about and take away about homelessness today.
This is a free drop-in event. We are grateful to colleagues at National Museums NI for hosting us.

Tuesday 17 June & Wednesday 18 June - Street Sharing
Between 6pm and 8pm on Tuesday 17th June and Wednesday 18th June, we will set up on the street outside City Hall. People can come and add a name of a loved one to our memorial banner, find out more about the work and share any information that can help the project represent deaths in Northern Ireland fairly and honour those who have passed whilst fighting for change. We would particularly like to meet with people who are currently homeless or who are delivering grassroots services and campaigns.

Gill Taylor strategic lead for the Dying Homeless Project said:
"It is so important to us that we honour, and remember with love, people who died whilst homeless in Northern Ireland to the same extent as people in Wales, England and Scotland. We are visiting Belfast to listen, learn and attempt to do justice to the community there. Meeting as many people as possible, to get a clear picture of what's happening on the ground, will help us ensure no-one is forgotten."
