State of the Nation
Every Christmas a spotlight is put on homeless that soon fades. But homelessness is something that happens year round. Rough sleeping has more than doubled since 2010 despite promises of more government assistance.
Since April 2017 MoH has been shining a light what’s really happening round the country through our year long programme State of the Nation.
State of the Nation has included art, performance, articles, research, film and much more.
WHAT HAS HAPPENED SO FAR
State of the Nation: Exchanges on Homelessness
MoH launched State of the Nation at Tate Exchange in Tate Modern on 08-09 April 2017. This weekend of art and performance included a display of objects and stories taken from seven cities around the UK, inspirational work by artist David Tovey and a range of performances and talks. You can find out more about the weekend here.
Raw Truths
MoH took part in a series of events called Raw Truths between May and July 2017. The events responded to Cardboard Citizens Home Truths play cycles and explored the history of housing, activism and the present day realities of homelessness.
Objects and Stories
MoH was delighted to release four object stories made with renowned film maker Dorothy Allen-Pickard in autumn 2017. The objects were shown at Tate Exchange and show our storytellers recounting the powerful stories of the hat, asbo, health card and naloxone in the words of the donor. You can find the object stories here.
Jimmy’s Corner
Jimmy’s corner was launched in mid 2017 in memory of the late Jimmy Carlson OBE who was with MoH at the beginning of our journey. Jimmy was never afraid to express his views and was a passionate about the rights of those affected by homelessness. This platform is for range of opinions about homelessness and is updated regularly.
Frequently Asked Questions by Anthony Luvera and Gerald Mclaverty
Between 22 and 28 January 2018, the Museum of Homelessness (MoH) once again presented State of the Nation at Tate Liverpool. The focus for the week was Frequently Asked Questions. project developed by Anthony Luvera and Gerald McLaverty, that presents research about support and services available to homeless people through a series of questions. The work maps the realities faced by the most marginalised individuals across the UK as they attempt to access systems of care.

State of the Nation is now coming to a close but we will be announcing a brand new programme very shortly. Stay tuned for more info.
